The Pirates of Penzance
The Northampton Gilbert and Sullivan Group are delighted to return to the Royal auditorium with their latest production - ‘The Pirates of Penzance’
Following the success of HMS Pinafore Gilbert & Sullivan began working their new collaboration which unusually had its official premiere in New York but a single performance had been given on the previous day at the Royal Bijou Theatre, Paignton, England, to secure the British copyright. The Pirates of Penzance was an immediate hit and takes its place today as one of the most popular and enduring works of musical theatre.
A firm favourite with both performers and audience alike.
Once again Gilbert’s topsy turvey world cannot fail to delight and Sullivan’s music is of the highest standard. It is a tale of inept pirates and policemen together with all our favourite stereotypes - the elderly contralto – the handsome tenor and of course the Major-General with his bevy of beautiful daughters.
Swashbuckling fun for the whole family!
